Anonymous Donor's $30K Gift to Luigi Mangione's Legal Fund Stating 'Due Process Is Lacking' Leaves Users in Shock

A $30,000 anonymous donation to Luigi Mangione's legal fund, citing concerns over due process and politicization of his case, has reignited debate among shocked users.

Mangione was charged with first- and second-degree murder in New York after being accused of shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024. His legal defense fund was launched the same month on GiveSendGo, aiming to raise $1 million.

The case has drawn national attention, particularly after Donald Trump reinstated the federal death penalty in January 2025, making Mangione eligible for capital punishment if convicted.

On February 24, an anonymous donor contributed $30,000 to Mangione's fundraiser, questioning the fairness of his prosecution and arguing that the case was "likely politicized."

"I never need to worry about affording [medical] care. But here I am [because], even among the affluent, it is clear that from the motion to dismiss Adams' charges to perp walk, the case is likely politicized," the anonymous donor wrote, referencing to New York City Mayor Eric Adams' corruption charges being dropped by the Department of Justice.

The donor added that they were "highly doubtful" of the case's evidence due to the wide coverage it has received, stating that they believed the case was "lacking" due process.

News of the donation went viral on X, leading users to comment about the support Mangione has received from people across the country.

"This is insane in the most profound way possible," one user wrote. "BASED WHOEVER THAT IS [I love you]," another commented.

Another anonymous $11,000 donation followed, also criticizing the death penalty's use in the case. With the recent donations, Mangione's fundraiser has surpassed $608,000.

Meanwhile, Mangione released his first public statement, thanking supporters worldwide for their letters and contributions.

Mangione's first court appearance on February 21, saw heightened security, with him arriving in a bulletproof vest and handcuffs. Outside the courthouse, protestors rallied, chanting for his release.
