An angry customer has been accused of pulling out a gun and shooting a McDonald’s employee outside the fast food restaurant, following a dispute over cold fries in Brooklyn on Monday, Aug 1.
The incident reportedly transpired while the unidentified victim, a 23-year-old man, was working at a McDonald's outlet located at 1531 Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn at around 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1.
While the victim was working his shift, he was allegedly hassled by a female customer over her fries. The customer was reportedly FaceTiming her 20-year-old son during the incident. After the confrontation, the customer's son stormed into the restaurant and began verbally harassing the employee. As the argument escalated into a physical fight, the customer's son allegedly whipped out a gun and blasted the worker in the neck, New York Post reported.
“The mom complained that her fries were cold,’’ a police source said. “The mom was on FaceTime with her son, and he heard the dispute between her and the clerk. The son and the clerk got into a dispute inside, and it went outside.”
The victim, who was subsequently transported to Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, remains in extremely critical condition as of Tuesday, Aug. 2.
“I feel like crying. You shot someone over french fries?” said a witness, who owns a neighboring local business.
“The co-workers, they were around the victim", another witness said.
“They were on their phones, and they were crying. A man took off his shirt and put it on the neck to try to stop the bleeding. The victim’s right eye was swollen shut. He couldn’t talk,’’ a bystander recalled. “He was just shaking. His chest was heaving. He was still breathing when they put him on the stretcher.”
Following the incident, the officers found a single spent 9mm casing at the scene and the suspected shooter was taken into custody. The assailant was reportedly previously arrested for grand larceny in 2019 and assault and theft of service in 2018. He also has numerous sealed arrest cases against him, NBC News reported.
“Where does a 20-year-old get a gun from?” a local store worker said. “Fulton Street is the craziest street. It’s getting worse, and the shooters are getting younger. They have lost their sense of direction."
