Things have been anything but easy for estranged couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who’s been embroiled in an arduous divorce battle for the past five years.
But, things seem to be looking up for Pitt, who recently scored a major win—and was tentatively awarded joint physical and legal custody of the former couple’s minor children in a sealed decision made earlier this spring, as cited on Huffington Post.
The decision came by after Judge John Ouderkirk ruled in Pitt’s favor, thwarting all of Jolie’s attempts to attain sole custody of the six kids the couple share together i.e. twins Knox and Vivienne, 12; Shiloh, 14; Zahara, 16; Pax, 17; and Maddox, 19.
While the decision was lauded by Pitt’s family and friends, his ex-wife is certainly not pleased. As per a filing on Monday, Jolie has sought to disqualify Ouderkirk from the divorce case on the grounds that the judge allegedly refused to hear evidence as she says is relevant to the children’s safety and well-being before issuing a tentative ruling, as cited on Page Six.
While Jolie had applied for a similar request in November last year, it was denied. As per new court records, Jolie also has proof of domestic violence against Pitt.
Pitt’s attorneys have shot back and stated that “Ouderkirk has conducted an extensive proceeding over the past six months in a thorough, fair manner and reached a tentative ruling and order after hearing from experts and percipient witnesses.”
Jolie recently moved to Los Angeles to live closer to Pitt, whom the kids meet on a regular basis.
“I’ve been focusing on healing our family,” said Jolie, in a recent interview with British Vogue this March. “It’s slowly coming back, like the ice melting and the blood returning to my body.”
Jolie also expressed her gratitude about having the kids around her for the most part, especially as they spend extended time indoors due to the pandemic. “I'm lucky, and I think when you have that many children, they really take care of each other,” stated Jolie in a report in ET Online adding, “We are so used to being tight together for a long time.”
