Amparo Rivelles has passed away at age 88 in a hospital located in Madrid, Spain. The Spanish actress had been admitted for several days and her health quickly deteriorated. Rivelles is one of the most prestigious actresses of her country, working in television, film and theatre. Throughout her career she received the Premio Nacional de Teatro for her work on-stage and a Goya Award for her role in the film "Hay Que Deshacer La Casa."

Amparo Rivelles was the daughter of a couple of actors, Rafael Rivelles and María Fernanda Ladrón de Guevara. The Spanish actress started her career at the age of 14 with a small role in "La Madre Guapa." She later confessed that she would've loved to have been a lawyer or doctor. Rivelles quickly found success and was approached by Hollywood studios, but she never lent her talent to them. In 1955 she took part in the Spanish version of the George Orwell's play "Mr. Arkadin."

By 1957, Amparo Rivelles established herself in Mexico where she was also very succesful. Initially she was contracted to do a short season of stage play "Un Cuarto Lleno De Rosas" with Manolo Fabregas, which was extended due to the high demand. It was in Mexico where she spent more than 20 years working in a variety of projects. Most Mexican audiences know her for her roles in telenovelas like "Pensión de Mujeres" and "Estafa de Amor" as her first projects in the small screen. One of her most remembered roles was as "La Leona," where she plays a woman that is abandoned by her husband that was only interested in her money, causing her daughter to resent her for believing it was her fault her father left.

Amparo Rivelles retired from acting in 2006 and one of her last public appearances was in 2001 where she received an homage for her career in the arts. "Acting has been my life," she said during the event organized by the Cervantes Institute. "I've had the fortune of working in what I like and enjoy, although laughter has been by defect. Today I am happy." Watch the complete homage down below!
