Selena Gomez has had quite the year. After embarking on her sold out "Revival Tour" and ending it early due to her health issues, the Mexican-American singer has had many of her fans and loved ones worried. While we recently reported that Gomez may be stepping back into the spotlight for the American Music Awards, we are happy to say that we were right!
Last night's AMAs brought together the music industry's best talent as they honored talented stars from every genre of music. While Drake was the artist to watch last night due to his record breaking 13-nominations, it was Selena Gomez who ruled the night.
"The Heart Wants What It Wants" singer was well received as she stepped back into the spotlight after taking some much needed time off. The star who has been planning her highly-anticipated return was honored with the Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist award. Appearing to be in high spirits, Gomez brough the crowd to their feet as she delivered an uplifiting speech to her fans.
“In 2014 this stage was actually the first time that I was authentically, 100 percent honest with all of you, the singer admitted. "I think it’s safe to say that all of you know my life whether I like it or not. I had to stop because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside. I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down. I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what’s in here [holds chest]. I’m not trying to get validation nor do I need it anymore. All I can say from the bottom of my heart is I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every single day with people that I love. I have to say thank you so much to my fans because you guys are so damn loyal and I don’t know what I did to deserve you. If you are broken you do not have to stay broken. If that’s anything whether you respect me or not that’s one thing you should know about me. I care about people. Thank you so much for this. This is for you.”
Gomez has been away at a Tennessee rehab facility over the last couple of months in an effort to get herself in a better health space. After being diagnosed with lupus, the singer has been back and forth trying to deal with complications from the disease.
While many people believed that her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber had something to do with her stepping out of the spotlight, her speech showed that her time of was bigger than the Canadian star.
Gomez has come an extremely long way and we are happy that the songstress is back in great spirits. Lupus is a tricky disease but with an amazing support system ad a positive outlook on the future, the singer is in amazing hands.
A huge congratulations goes out to Selena for winning the Favorite Pop/Rock Artist Award!
