If you didn’t have the chance to watch “American Idol” on Thursday night, let us tell you that you missed one hell of a show! Not only did the Top 7 contestants delivered amazing performances, but the bottom three, Gianna Isabella, Olivia Rox and Avalon Young, made it almost impossible for the judges to make their final decision on who had what it takes to go through the next round.
Demi Lovato, the special guest star of the night, rocked the stage next to the aspiring Idols with her empowering single “Confident,” and showed her outstanding vocal abilities with a solo performance of her new single “Stone Cold.” Even though there was very little time for the judges to comment on Demi’s talent at the end of the song, we could see judge Jennifer Lopez saying, “Damn!” and giving Lovato a standing ovation.
The favorite of the night was, once again, La’Porsha Renae. The 22-year-old singer wowed the judges with an impressive performance of “Halo” by Beyoncé. “La’Porsha, I love watching you more and more every week, coming to your own. You know, you are a hard act to follow for anybody over there. You are really the one to beat…I don’t know what else to say…just, so talented and so blessed, and you have so much going for you, and it’s good to see you become a star in front of our eyes,” said JLo.
Gianna Isabella hit all the right notes during her rendition of “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys, but her emotional connection to the lyrics was not strong enough and cost her the final spot in the competition. “Your voice…gorgeous! I would say that my head was very associated with that. My heart was a little hungry, wanting a little more feeling from that. But your pitch and everything else is beautiful so…,” said judge Keith Urban.
At the end of the night, Avalon Young was named as the eight and final contestant to make it through. Dalton Rapattoni, La'Porsha Renae, Lee Jean, MacKenzie Bourg, Sonika Vaid, Trent Harmon and Tristan McIntosh were saved by America’s votes.
