The final season of “American Idol” has gone too quickly and we almost can’t believe this is the end of the reality singing competition. Throughout its farewell season, the show has featured some of the best moments in the history of “Idol” and has emphasized the change it has made in the music industry by opening the way for new artists in the past 15 years.
This week’s live performances had everyone having all the feels; especially judge Jennifer Lopez, who has been very emotional since the season began. Earlier in the competition, Lopez admitted that La’Porsha Renae was the one to beat - and we couldn’t agree more. “You know, you are a hard act to follow for anybody over there. You are really the one to beat…I don’t know what else to say,” the singer told Renae after witnessing her impressive rendition of Beyoncé’s “Halo.”
Last week, after Renae’s duet with fellow contestant Trent Harmon, JLo couldn’t help but to show her excitement for the two contestants, who in her opinion are the two powerhouses in the competition, and she confirmed that this week when she had the most wholehearted reactions to their performances.
“It takes a lot to overcome…it takes a lot of strength to overcome those things in your life baby. I know. Everybody knows…we’ve all been through stuff like that, you know what I mean? And honestly, you are an inspiration and it’s so beautiful on you, you put it in your music, you don’t over do it, you do it right there, the way you are supposed to…it’s just…it was powerful, thank you for that moment!” the “Shades of Blue” star told Renae after channeling her inner Mary J. Blige with “No More Drama.”
A slightly more composed JLo began sharing her critique with Trent after his soulful performance of “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, but after a few words in, both of them began tearing up in what was another very heartfelt moment last night. “You know, it’s moments like this why I love ‘Idol’ and why I’m going to miss it so much. It’s been having this front seat to watching the perfect song and the perfect singer sing it at that time, you know what I mean? It’s just like, that’s what happened there and it made me feel like ‘damn, I’ve been so lucky the five years that I got to be on this show, and watch things like that, you know? And you sang that song so beautifly and I felt every single word of it, and thank you, thank you for giving me one of those moments,” a teary Jennifer told Harmon.
Watch their performances and don’t forget to vote for your favorite, and tune in next Thursday to find out who is one step closer to becoming the final “Idol.”
