A recent study by the nonpartisan World Justice Project has revealed American voters' attitudes towards election outcomes in the United States. The data, released on Tuesday, shows a significant divide along party lines regarding the acceptance of presidential election results.
According to the survey, approximately half of Republican respondents -- 46% -- indicated they would not accept the election outcome if their preferred candidate loses. Moreover, a strong portion of these individuals -- 14% -- expressed willingness to "take action to overturn" the results.
By comparison, the study found that about a quarter of Democratic respondents shared similar sentiments about rejecting unfavorable election results. 11% of Democrats stated they would actively attempt to overturn the outcome by means of an unspecified action.
According to USA Today, which first published the results of the survey, these findings highlight growing concerns about electoral integrity and democratic processes in the United States.
The group's executive director, Elizabeth Andersen, told USA Today that "the results are 'kind of startling' and amount to about one-third of Americans being unwilling to accept the presidential election results if their candidate loses."
The poll was comprised of 1,046 American households, and conducted online between June 10 and June 18.
