Controversial Venezuelan actress and businesswoman Alicia Machado received an early Christmas gift that left her overjoyed and eager to share the news with her social media followers. The iconic 1996 Miss Universe won a prize in Spain's 2024 National Christmas Lottery.

Buying tickets for this lottery is a cherished tradition in Spain, and following the saying "when in Rome, do as the Romans do," Machado joined her friends in Madrid to take part.

A stroke of luck

"I can't believe it! As many of you know, I was recently in Spain filming a movie," Machado shared. The project, 'Spicy Will,' tells the story of a millionaire's son who is left only a Mexican salsa recipe as an inheritance after losing his fortune.

Machado recounted on Instagram how reconnecting with friends led to a decision to buy lottery tickets. "We bought a few tickets during a wonderful afternoon in Madrid," she said.

"We won! I can't believe it!" the 'Casa de los Famosos' winner exclaimed.

How much did she win?

Based on the tickets Machado posted on Instagram, her prize amounted to €40. Though not a fortune, she found it meaningful.

"Well, it's not much, but it's a sign," the Venezuelan businesswoman wrote, hinting at her plans to return to Spain soon.

A Spanish tradition

Spain's National Christmas Lottery is known for its generous prizes and the way it brings families together in hopes of winning.

A video published by the renowned Spanish publication, El País showcased more winners from this year's draw, including the 20 people who drew the number 75143 who shared the "fifth prize" of €6,000 each.

One winner, Merche, said she had worked at the lottery agency on Sepúlveda Street for over 17 years and sold many winning tickets. Another winner shared that the prize would help her buy gifts for her six children and make their Christmas extra special this year.

For the pageant winner and actress, this win wasn't just about the money, it symbolized good luck and gave her another reason to return to Spain soon.
