Alessandra Ambrosio has graced the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show with her beauty for almost two decades, but that might just be coming to an end. A report surfaced where the 36-year-old Brazilian model said that she was walking the show in Shanghai this year for the last time. According to Entertainment Tonight, Ambrosio broke the news to Kevin Frazer just hours before hitting the runway in China. "She has been participating in shows for the last 17 years and is ready to focus her energy on being a mom to her two kids, Anja, 9, and Noah, 5," the report read. Alessandra wants to focus on her swimsuit line and said that her final show would be memorable.
In a separate report, Ambrosio was asked about the rumors she was leaving the iconic show, which left many puzzled as she said "she didn't know." “I can’t even believe that I’m here still," she told People. "Never in my life would I dream of doing 17 shows, but I’m very happy to be here in China because it’s definitely the biggest show we’ve ever done. We’re on the other side of the world. The venue is so incredible and culturally it’s so different and to be here I feel so fortunate." She also added: “I have this amazing Balmain look. And I love Olivier. I’m good friends with him. I was very happy when I heard Balmain and Victoria’s Secret were doing a collaboration,” she shared. “I’m wearing this amazing punk rock lingerie look. Then I have a gorgeous outfit, very colorful for my second look.”
The conflicting reports about Alessandra Ambrosio's future in the lingerie fashion show is up in the air, or maybe it's all part of the show to throw everyone off. Maybe they're saving the big finale for when the show airs on tv? Either way, Alessandra was one of our favorite angels and we looked forward to seeing her every year. We can't wait to tune in Tuesday, November 28 starting at 10pm ET/PT on CBS, after all, it might be her last appearance.
The fashion show has had a lot of controversial moments already with Gigi Hadid not attending the show after she was allegedly denied a visa to go to China. “I’m so bummed I won’t be able to make it to China this year. Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!! Can’t wait to tune in with everyone to see the beautiful show I know it will be, and already can’t wait for next year! :) x” Gigi tweeted.
Fans have been speculating that Hadid was denied a visa after she squinted her eyes holding a Buddha, which was deemed racist. Gigi apologized after the video went viral, but that might not have been enough after the offense.
Executive Producer of the show, Ed Razek, is clearing up the rumors about the visa situation. “The news reports I’ve been reading from the US here in Shanghai regarding this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show are not an accurate reflection of what I’m seeing and experiencing on site,” he told People. “This will, without question, be the biggest fashion event in history and our most ambitious show by far. The event is well in hand and coming together beautifully. We have more models than ever before – 55 representing 17 countries, and four world-class entertainers.”
“The Chinese have been wonderful and enthusiastic hosts and partners. From granting more than 700 visas, collaborating with us on every detail and introducing us to local experts who have helped us elevate our event in this renowned fashion city. We appreciate their efforts and all they have done to make this event a success. We look forward to the live show Monday night and the international broadcast a week later."
