Alejandro Sanz is one of the most recognized Latin artists in the world. As a 16-time Latin Grammy winner and three-time Grammy Award winner, the Spanish singer-songwriter has had an amazing career, releasing 15 albums all which have reached multiple-platinum sales, and selling over 23 million copies worldwide.
Currently, Sanz is in the middle of an extensive international tour, gracing multiple countries with his velvety voice, known for captivating the senses of his listeners.
Besides his performances, Sanz serves as an ambassador for Greenpeace, with whom he just finished an expedition in the Arctic. The purpose of this trip was to witness the effects of global warming to lobby for its protection.
Although the singer has a packed schedule pleasing fans all over the world and advocating for the environment, he is going to take a little break on November 6, and enjoy a well deserved honor.
Alejandro Sanz will be presented with an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music in recognition for his achievements and influence in contemporary music and for his enduring contributions to international culture.
The President of the Berklee College of Music, Roger Brown, will present the degree to Sanz, who will be joining other Latinos such as Chucho Valdés, Juan Luis Guerra, Paco de Lucía and Gloria Estefan in the honorary doctorate recipients hall of fame.
Following the ceremony, Sanz will perform a career-spanning concert backed by Berklee students.
At the concert, a 40-piece Berklee student ensemble will pay tribute to Sanz's musical legacy, with Sanz joining the students to perform select tunes. The concert is produced by bass professor Oscar Stagnaro with Matthew Nicholl, chair of contemporary writing and production, serving as musical director.
"It is a great honor for me to receive this doctorate degree from one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. I will continue to work every day of my life to deserve this honor." said Alejandro Sanz in a statement.
