Ailina Tsarnaeva, sister of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev appeared in court yesterday after a warrant was issued for her arrest, The New York Times reports. Tsarnaeva, 23, was charged with misleading an investigator examining the use of a counterfeit bill at an Applebees's in South Boston Mall in January 2010. She was scheduled to appear in court in 2011, however, after she failed to present herself, a warrant was issued for her arrest. Ms. Tsarnaeva, a former resident of Cambridge, now lives in Fairview, New Jersey.

According to police, Ms. Tsarnaeva was driving the a vehicle for the man who used the counterfeit bill. Judge Michael C. Bolden relased Ms. Tsarnaeva from a $1,500 bail, and waived Tsarnaeva's next court date, scheduled for December 4th, on the condition that she call in to Massachusetts probation officers once a week while her case is still being decided, The Boston Herald reports. Her attorney, George Gormley, argued that "this is a voluntary surrender appearance to get back in good standing with the court with a view toward defending this case. My client is practically indigent."

Ms. Tsarnaeva's brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, pled not guilty to charges stemming from the April 15 explosions that killed three people and injured more than 260 people during the Boston Marathon. His brother, Tamerlan, was killed in a shootout with police. Dzhokhar has pled not guilty to using a weapon of mass destruction, a charge that carries the possibility of capital punishment, reports USA Today. Dzhokhar has stated that the two brothers were motivated by extremist Islamist beliefs but were not connected to any known terrorist cells.
