Following the presidential debate between Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday night, X (formerly Twitter) and other social media apps are being inundated with AI generated memes depicting the former protecting or holding cats and dogs. In some versions, he is depicted holding the animals and running away from swarms of people in a seemingly bold effort to protect them.

Ahead of Tuesday nights' debate, Trump himself took to Truth Social, an app majority-owned by him, to share AI generated images of animals.

This follows the spread of baseless claims by Trump and his Vice President pick J.D. Vance surrounding the immigrant community in Springfield, Ohio. Both Trump and Vance have repeatedly claimed that Haitian immigrants in the city of Springfield have been abducting household pets and eating them.

"They're eating the dogs, the people that came in, they're eating the cats," Trump said during Tuesday's debate. "They're eating the pets of the people that live there, and this is what's happening in our country, and it's a shame."

These claims have continued to circulate despite Ohio lawmakers and The Springfield Police Division reiterating the lack of evidence behind them.

"In response to recent rumors alleging criminal activity by the immigrant population in our city, we wish to clarify that there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community," said Springfield Police.
