Gaming giant Activision Blizzard secured itself a deal to purchase smartphone puzzle game champs King Digital Entertainment for a whopping $5.9 billion.

If you aren't aware, King is responsible for the mega hit smartphone game "Candy Crush Saga," as well as titles like "Bubble Witch Saga," "Pet Rescue Saga" and "Diamond Digger Saga."

Activision CEO and President Bobby Kotick said of the acqusition:

"The combined revenues and profits solidify our position as the largest, most profitable standalone company in interactive entertainment. With a combined global network of more than half a billion monthly active users, our potential to reach audiences around the world on the device of their choosing enables us to deliver great games to even bigger audiences than ever before."

According to Gamesindustry.biz there are still various legal obstacles to cross before the acquisition is approved, but the deal should be completed by Spring 2016. Furthermore, the acquisition is expected to increase Activision's 2016 earnings by almost a third, Den of Geek reports.

The money involved is a lot and if you put it into comparison with anything, when Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, the company paid just over $4 billion. Time will tell if Activision's acquisition paid off, but what we do know for certain is the company has the top mobile game maker in its portfolio.
