She's at it again—a notorious bun squasher in Fukuoka, Japan, was arrested Monday after allegedly flattening a convenience store bun and refusing to pay as part of her pastry-crushing crusade.
"I only checked the firmness of [the bun] by pressing lightly with my hand," said the 40-year-old suspect, who claimed she was unemployed, according to authorities. But store employees had reportedly seen her damaging buns multiple times, per BBC.
The woman allegedly drove her thumb into a package of four black sesame and cream cheese buns, leaving the wrapper intact but crushing one so bad that the entire bag became unsellable, prompting the store manager, who had seen her pull this stunt before, to confront her at the exit and demand she pay the 180 yen ($1.20) price.
When she refused, he followed her for nearly a kilometer (.62 miles) before restraining her and calling law enforcement. She was arrested at the scene for "criminal damage," police said.
Japanese authorities are cracking down on food tampering, like the rise in "sushi terrorism." Pranksters tamper with conveyor belt sushi, lick communal soy sauce bottles or pressing their fingers into sushi before leaving it for unsuspecting customers.
