Aaron Hernandez has been quietly tucked away behind bars before his upcoming second trial. The former football star, who has already been found guilty murder, will have another day in court to face double murder charges.
According to FOX News Latino, the former New England Patriots tight end is due in court for a status conference in his upcoming double murder trial. Hernandez is scheduled to stand trial in February for the 2012 murders of two men he encountered in a Boston nightclub.
Prosecutors say that the former football star gunned down Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado after de Abreu accidentally bumped into Hernandez in the club, which prompted him to spill his drink.
Hernandez is already serving a life sentence for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player. Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancée. Although the motive was never clear, Hernandez shot Lloyd six times in the middle of the night in an industrial park near his home in North Attleborough.
Prosecutors had an overwhelmingly amount of evidence against Hernandez such as home security video, witness testimony, cellphone records and Hernandez being with Lloyd at the time he was killed. The suggested that Lloyd may have been killed because he knew too much about Hernandez’s alleged involvement in the deadly shooting of de Abreu and Furtado. Due to speculation, the judge ruled that they weren’t allowed to tell the jury.
The only motive suggested in the case was that Hernandez appeared angry with Lloyd at a nightclub two nights before his murder.
Hernandez has entered a plea of not guilty for these new charges. A judge is expected to get a status report on the case on Wednesday in Suffolk Superior Court.
The former Patriots star was considered to be one of the best tight ends in the game.
