While Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate the death of former semiprofessional football player Odin Lloyd following his execution-style murder, much of the attention centers on New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. Hernandez was seen with the 27-year-old shortly before his death. The body of Lloyd found in North Attleborough, Massachusetts not far from where the former University of Florida standout resides.

According to ESPN, local authorities searched a pond near the home of Hernandez as they continue to look for any type of evidence that can tie anyone to the murder of Lloyd, not just Hernandez himself. In addition to searching the local pond, police also spent over 3 hours searching the inside of the 23-year-old's home while state police used dogs to aid in their search efforts. An arrest warrant was initiated for Hernandez late last week when police learned that the football star destroyed home security cameras and his cell phone.

Professor David Siegel of New England Law Boston told the USA Today the reason police continue to investigate the home and surrounding neighborhood of the Patriots receiver in a thorough manner is because he has a certain status as a public figure. In many cases, thorough exploration involving celebrities is done because the interest level people share for known figures tends to be higher as opposed to when a person of lesser public popularity is a focal point.

There's no magic to police going to search a place three times as opposed to one, but I also think that law enforcement tends to be particularly careful when there's a high-profile kind of possible suspect, both because they may anticipate higher scrutiny of their work if it ends up incriminating someone, and because I think they be concerned that there is excessive public interest and pressure to rush to judgment when there is a potential suspect who is a high-profile celebrity.

The mechanics of the investigation of a homicide that might implicate a prominent person are not going to be different than those that implicate a person of no prominence. What's going to be different, or what may be different, is the attention to some details, and also the reluctance to share public information about the case. That's a different scenario with a more prominent individual. But the law is the same.

Odin Lloyd's body was found shot in the back of the head on June 17 and surveillance cameras from around the North Attleborough community show Hernandez and Lloyd with one another alongside two other individuals. In addition to meticulously searching the home of Aaron Hernandez for evidence along with the aforementioned nearby pond, ABC News indicates that police officials are also interested in finding out why the football player hired a team of cleaners to thoroughly clean his home.

Odin Lloyd was also said to be dating the aunt of Hernandez's child. At the present time, no official arrests have been made and no one has been charged with the alleged homicide.
