Former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez will be indicted on charges he attacked a prisoner who was handcuffed and threatened to kill the family of a prison guard when he was in county jail Dartmouth. Hernández's lawyers also asked the judge to drop the charges he faces in connection with the murder last June pf the semi-professional football player Lloyd Odin. According to USA Today, "a tentative trial date of Oct. 6 was set Monday for former NFL star Aaron Hernandez in the 2013 killing of acquaintance Odin Lloyd."
Hernández's lawyers maintain that the charges should be dismissed because prosecutors have not shown any probable cause for Hernandez killing Lloyd or had participated in the murder. Two friends of Hernandez are also accused in the same case. Hernández is also accused of killing two men in Boston in 2012. According to the court documents, Hernandez apparently shot a weapon from his vehicle into the vehicle carrying Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado, killing them both instantly.
Aaron Hernandez was indicted by a grand jury on Aug. 22, 2013, for the murder of Odin Lloyd. He is also under investigation for a series of other murders in Massechusetts. Hernandez has maintained his innocence. A former University of Florida football star, Hernandez was drafted into the Patriots in 2010. On June 26, 2013, Hernandez was released from the Patriots after officers from the North Attleboro Police Department in Massachusetts arreste him at his home. He has been serving time in jail since.
