As the investigation into the murder of former semiprofessional football player Odin Lloyd continues, police officers in North Attleborough, Massachusetts have taken New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez into custody. According to ESPN, Hernandez was wearing a white shirt, red shorts and black sneakers as he was escorted by officers out of his house and into a nearby police car. The arrest was not a surrender situation.

While he was never deemed an official suspect in the murder of Lloyd - who was said to have been dating the aunt of Hernandez's daughter - police kept a close watch on the football star and his whereabouts as they thoroughly investigated his North Attleborough neighborhood and the tight end's mansion. Continuing to look for clues they hope will lead them to the man who shot Lloyd in an execution-style murder last week, police searched a pond near the home of the football star on Monday but only found a deflated football.
Along with a thorough search of the nearby pond, police spent over 3 hours investigating the player's home. It was also discovered that Hernandez destroyed surveillance cameras from his home along with his cell phone last week, prompting an arrest warrant to be prepared for obstruction of justice. Though the warrant wasn't issued last week, police felt they had enough evidence early Wednesday morning to bring the three-year professional football player into custody.

Hernandez's attorney Michael Fee said in a statement earlier this week that all parties will continue to cooperate with the authorities and that opinions should not be formed until proper facts are released regarding the situation.
Over the past week, our client, Aaron Hernandez, has been the subject of a relentless flood of rumors, misinformation, and false reports in the media. These include the repeated publication of a supposedly confirmed report that an arrest warrant had been issued for Aaron, a report that was exposed as untrue.
None of these false reports come from official sources and we appreciate the professionalism and restraint shown by the Bristol County District Attorney's Office to date with regard to its public statements while its investigation is underway. Out of respect for that ongoing investigation, we will continue to refrain from commenting on its substance.
The destroyed surveillance videos show Hernandez with Lloyd and two other individuals hours before the 27-year-old was killed.
