A$AP Rocky was seen walking out of the Los Angeles Police Department on Wednesday after having been arrested on the same day straight out of the LAX International Airport. The LAPD arrested the rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, in connection to a shooting that took place in November 2021.
According to Page Six, Mayers had just landed at the airport on April 20 after a highly publicized trip to Barbados with his pregnant girlfriend Rihanna. With assistance from Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s homeland security investigations team, LAPD officers were already waiting for the 33-year-old rapper to disembark from the private jet. They put him in handcuffs and booked him after his arrest.
Hours after he was arrested, he was seen leaving the LAPD headquarters surrounded by several police officers as he boarded a black SUV. On the same day of his arrest, Mayers posted bail which was set at $550,000, on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and his involvement in the said shooting.
Cops stated the November shooting allegedly took place in the Hollywood area and stemmed from an argument between two people that had escalated to one person firing a weapon at the other individual. The suspected gunman who fled on foot with two other males after the incident was identified by authorities as Mayers.
"The argument escalated and resulted in the suspect firing a handgun at the victim. The victim sustained a minor injury from the incident and later sought his medical treatment," a police press release stated.
A statement from the victim claimed Mayers shot at him multiple times with one bullet grazing his left hand. A search warrant was executed at the rapper’s LA home, where police had to resort to the use of a battering ram to enter the property. The cops left the home taking with them a box filled with potential evidence.
Records show that Mayers was previously involved in a high-profile legal battle in 2019. At the time, he was convicted of assault after being involved in a street fight in Sweden. Although he was facing up to two years in prison, Mayers did not face jail time but was ordered to pay restitution to the victim.
