Nathalie Fraser, a 52-year-old Canadian woman body was discovered in a suitcase in a garbage tip—soon after she sold her house and shifted base to Cuba, to start a new life with boyfriend Leonel Leon Nuviola, 39.
While further probe into the mysterious demise is underway, Fraser’s family suspects foul play largely on Leon Nuviola’s part. Maria Eve-Fraser, one of Nathalie’s daughter felt something was amiss from get-go. “I felt there was something serious,” said Maria, as she spoke to a local French newspaper about the violent death of her mother. “When I went to see them in Cuba, I found him to be possessive, impulsive and controlling. My mother said it was because he was nervous to meet me,” she added, hinting at how she sees Nuviola as the prime suspect. Despite this, there hasn’t been any mention of abuse as yet.
Nathalie, who moved to Cuba in December 2019, sent her daughters and sister into a state of panic after going missing for 48 hours since January 18. She hailed from the Canadian city of Montreal.
Despite accusations being levied upon Nathalie’s boyfriends, friends and family also maintained that the couple looked like they were very much in love. Nathalie was really fond of Nuviola and it was apparent by the drastic life decisions that she made over the course of one and a half years—the time they met and began a courtship. Melanie, one of Nathalie’s daughters claimed that her mother put everything on stake for the sake of love. “She put her house up in Canada for sale and left with almost nothing to live there with him, with the eventual goal of getting married,” Melanie said as she spoke to a media outlet.
Adding fuel to the fodder is the growing distance between Fraser’s family and Nuviola’s. As per reports, Nathalie’s family members have accused Nuviola and his family of abruptly cutting contact despite having shared good communication in the past. The family has also complained of negligence on the part of the Cuban government.
Nuviola is arrested in connection with Nathalie’s death, just as cops delve deeper into the case.
