A 5-year-old met with an untimely death after her playmate accidentally pulled a trigger on her as they played with a loaded gun at her Lithona residence, Georgia, last week.
Jada Willingham was discovered lying in a pool of blood by her 68-year-old babysitter, who rushed to the bedroom upon hearing uncontrollable wails by the little girls. She was in the kitchen at the time of the fateful incident.
Jada was rushed to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston Hospital but was pronounced dead after she succumbed to the fatal shots. The girls reportedly got their hands on a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson, which belongs to the mother of one of the playmates, as she worked in the military.
Keisha Walker, Jada’s mother, demanded other adults should be held responsible for her daughter’s death. The description on the page read:
“The babysitter showed so much negligence when my daughter got shot,” Walker told a TV station. “Words can’t explain how that little girl was, and I’ll never see her again. I’ll never get another Jada,” she added. A gofundme page has been created to raise funds for Jada’s funeral. “Due to this sad accident a mother is without her beautiful 5-year-old daughter this holiday season,” the fundraising page said. “This 5-year-old little girl will never get to see another birthday, holidays, school graduation again, and it isn’t fair.”
As per the statements released by DeKalb County police on Madras Court; the babysitter was found holding a cloth to Jada’s face in a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding when they arrived at the scene at around 2.30 p.m.
They discovered the firearm in the girl’s parent’s bedroom, tucked under the bed and on top of an ammo box. The two friends then went into a separate bedroom to play with the firearm, oblivious to the fact that the gun was loaded. The police cited that the deceased child’s friend was unaware of the weapon having bullets and “only pulled (the trigger) back a little bit.”
Chad Brooks, the babysitter’s son-in-law was arrested on Saturday with charges of second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children for having let the firearm lay around unattended. The equation between the 36-year-old man and the little girl’s friend is yet to be disclosed.
