A limousine carrying 9 female passengers and a male driver caugtht fire Saturday night as it crossed the San Mateo Bridge in the Bay Area of Calif.

Investigators told the San Jose Mercury News that the fire appeared to start at the back of the limo. Only 5 were able to escape the blaze as 5 passengers became trapped when the limo came to a halt on the bridge.

The fire started at around 10 p.m. on the bridge, which connects San Mateo and Alameda counties, located about 20 miles southeast of San Francisco.

The driver remained uninjured while the four women who escaped suffered injuries.

It is unclear where the limo was headed.

"We have no idea right now where they were going or where they were coming from," CHP officer Amelia Jack told KTVU, a television news outlet in the Bay Area.

Survivors are being treated for smoke inhalation and burns at Stanford Hospital and Valley Medical Center, according to SFGate.

Police closed westbound lanes the night of the fire to investigate the cuase, but all traffic was allowed through by Sunday morning.
