There are talks and rumors that Rodner Figueroa is heading over to Telemundo in the coming weeks following his exit from rival network Univision. As you all know now, the "El Gordo y La Flaca" fashion commentator was axed from the broadcaster following his unfortunate remarks about Michelle Obama's appearance. After being axed from the network over his comments that were perceived racist the Venezuelan personality asked for forgiveness in an open letter to Obama. Figueroa doesn't want to be deemed a racist and feels Univision is humiliating him after the turn of events. "I offer my sincerest apologies for a comment that I made about the characterization a make-up artist made about you in the Univision entertainment program 'El Gordo y La Flaca,'" the letter read. "I want to make it clear that I'm not racist and my comment wasn't directed personally to you, but to the characterization of the artist, that left a lot to be desired. The clip in full context is proof."
Rodner Figueroa just wants his name clean as he doesn't want to be known as a racist. He hired a lawyer who sent a letter to the network that says Univision "did not have a problem with my client’s remarks during the delay when it could have exercised its discretion to do so." He also says that the tv station never received a complaint from the White House and it was all a fib to get the host out of there before stirring up more drama behind-the-scenes. As all this drama unfolds, it's been said that he would be making his appearance on Telemundo in a sit-down interview with María Celest Arrarás where he would break his silence. This would be his introduction to the viewers of the network and hosting duties on "Suelta La Sopa" and Latin Billboards would follow. The opinion is divided on whether or not Rodner deserved to be let go from Univision, but is going to Telemundo the way to go? These are 5 reasons we think it's a bad idea:
1. Too Soon: Rodner was just fired for making those harsh remarks against the FLOTUS less than a month ago and he already secured a job? We're not saying nobody can hire him again and he should be banned for life. Obviously the man has to work and deserves a second chance to redeem himself. We think it's too soon though. This was not just a minor incident, this was major and he should think of resting for a while and come back refreshed.
2. Public Offended: Whether he is right or wrong or whether you were offended or not, the reality is that a lot of people did not agree with what he said. Figueroa offended many with his remarks and giving him another platform to possibly do more damage. The public doesn't forget easily. This goes back to giving him time off the airwaves before people can start being more forgiving.
3. Unimundo?: What does it take to be on Telemundo? Getting let go from Univision? What will Rodner Figueroa do on the network? The same thing he did on Univision, rip to shreds all the celebrities on the red carpet events. Instead of going to Premio Lo Nuestro and Premios Juventud he will be on Premios Billboard and Premios Tu Mundo. What will he bring that's different?
4. Other Talent Want An Opportunity: This goes with the last question posed. What happens to the talent that is awaiting their opportunity? Just because Rodner Figueroa was made famous on Univision he deserves to over step all those other television personalities that have been working and putting their time in on Telemundo? How is that fair to them? What kind of loyalty does Telemundo have with their current talent, that when a personality from Univision becomes free they are pushed to the side to make way for someone that has been working for the competition.
5. Telemundo Is A Landfill: This last point ties in with what we are saying. Telemundo has become a landfill of Univision talent. We know that Figueroa started working behind-the-scenes on Telemundo production, but he became a household name until he arrived to Univision. Lately, personalities that are dropped by Univision, find a job right away just crossing the street. Have a little bit of pride Telemundo! You guys already produce telenovelas that people love and we thank you for actually producing original content. Not only is it great because the soaps are not "old" and spoiled by the time the U.S. audiences watch them, but it's refreshing to see content that is specifically produced for your home audience. We suggest you do the same with your entertainment and local shows. Brew up some talent of your own and make the next Rodner Figueroa, don't just steal him from Univision. After all, you guys did discover William Levy and Jencarlos Canela.
