1. The Camera -- The Nokia Lumia 1020's selling point is of course the camera. The smartphones camera captures extremely high-res images with fine detail and puts the creative controls all at the users fingertips. Quite frankly the devices digital camera is the best on a smartphone to date. It features a 41 MP camera backed with tons of awesome features. The device is capable of taking 7152 x 5368 pixel photos and the results are astonishing. Check out a few of our screenshots below:
Moreover, the 1080p at 30FPS video recording capabilities are great in any situation. With the camera's autofocus it doesn't matter how fast you're moving while taking video. The front camera is just as great, maybe not 1080p great, but it features 1.2MP and is able to record at 720p at 30FPS which is wonderful for video conference calls.
2. Great Battery Life -- The battery life of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is pretty impressive having in mind its non-removable Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery. Mainly because of the symbiosis between the software and hardware, the device is able to withstand up to 7 hours of extensive use, 63 hours of music play, 9 hours of web surfing, up to 13 hours of talk time and up to 384 hours in standby mode. The 2,000 mAh battery inside seems meager compared to those in Android smartphones, but it easily lasted us at least a day of regular use. If you're checking e-mail occasionally, sending and receiving text messages, browsing social networks and taking pictures, the device should last you a solid work day on full charge.
3. Slim Design -- At a glance and even while holding the device you wouldn't notice the 1020 has so many hardware features, especially on the all black model. The micro-SIM tray and 3.5mm headphone jack are on top on the smarphone with the volume rocker buttons, power button and hardware shutter key on the right side. Below is the micro USB port for charging and the speaker grill. The back of the device however, is the most notable with the protruding camera. Dimensions of the Lumia 1020 measure 5.1 inches tall by 2.8 inches wide are pretty standard, and the 1020 measures 0.4 inch thick throughout most of its body. It's that large camera module on the back (about 1.75 inches in diameter) that protrudes a full 0.51 inch from the phone's face.
4. Solid Performance -- What the Nokia Lumia 1020 can do, it does well. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip, which comes in at 1.5GHz, along with 2GB of RAM. The 1020 is impressively smooth, fast and responds quickly. The apps open and switch quickly, scrolling and swiping are pretty effortless. There were a couple of downfalls with the performance but nothing too dramatic. When outdoors with loud ambient sounds the earpiece isn't as loud as other smartphones but when using headphones the volume is fine. Over AT&T's LTE network browsing the web and using social media like Facebook and Twitter was pretty fast.
When compared to other smartphones that are being released, the Nokia Lumia 1020 doesn't stand out with its software capabilities nor its display of even its battery life, its true selling point is the camera. Definitely worth its price, the smartphone is a perfect gift for that photo or video producing enthusiast wanting a powerful device.
