Queen Elizabeth II is one of the most powerful people in the world, and her image to the public is definitely sacred. The Queen and her royal staff take copious amounts of time in brushing up on her family’s public relations and making sure that their profile is clean. It comes as no surprise that there are some very dark and shocking secrets that the Queen has had to hide over the years, lest her family’s name be tarnished.

The Queen As A Gambler

It is no big secret that the Queen loves her horses, but her admiration for them spans more than simple gallivanting of the beautiful animals. The Queen has previously been reported to have gambled on her horses, reportedly making almost $8.8 million dollars in the past three decades off of her prized stables.

The Queen As An Overcompensating Mother

It has previously been made known that the Queen was not much of a hands-on mother, some even claiming that she didn’t show as much warmth as she should have to her children. It also made news when the Queen had commented on how she was frustrated at Princess Diana for seemingly coddling the Queen’s grandchildren. Prince Charles had even lamented on his mother’s absence, noting in his 1994 biography by Jonathan Dimbleby that it was the nursery staff that had “taught him to play, witnessed his first steps, and punished and rewarded him.”

However, it seems that the Queen overcompensates for her lack of quality time with her children, spending copious amounts of money to seemingly please her kids. Despite being known to have some very frugal habits, she did not raise a finger when Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson had a very expensive house built on Ascot.

The Questions About Prince Philip

The Queen was utterly enchanted by Prince Philip, eventually marrying him in 1947 in London. What’s surprising, however, is that the Duke of Edinburgh is actually her third cousin. Although it is not unheard of for royalty to intermarry, it is still a bit of a surprise to know that they’re related.

Despite their strong relations today, the Prince and the Queen had some issues, particularly with a scandal that placed Philip in the middle of adulterous rumors. The reports had claimed that he had an “unnamed woman” that he would frequently visit.

The Secrets Of Her Lineage

It is not only the Queen’s personal secrets that plague her but also the secrets about her lineage and blood. Her uncle Edward VIII — who had abdicated his throne — was actually a Nazi sympathizer. He and his wife, Wallis Simpson, had actually paid Hitler a visit in 1937.

Edward VIII was not the only one veiled with a scandal. His brother, Prince George, was a black sheep of the family as well. The Duke of Kent was a notorious playboy and user of illegal substances, up until his mysterious death at a plane crash in 1942. Some theories suggest that he was assassinated due to his lifestyle.

To make matters even worse, the royal family is faced with allegations that they have no claim to the throne. In 2012, Richard III’s remains were tested, shockingly revealing that there are no links to the DNA of the current royal family. At some point in time, an illegitimate heir was placed on the throne, thus putting to question Elizabeth II’s current standing.
