308 Arrested In Nationwide ICE Sweep, Senator Katie Britt Commends Efforts

Senator Katie Britt from Alabama on Wednesday revealed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested 308 individuals living in the country illegally.

The arrests occurred Tuesday, a day after President Trump's first full day in office. She noted on social media that the arrests were carried out nationwide despite extremely cold weather conditions.

Britt praised the arrests as evidence of Trump's commitment to his campaign promise of carrying out the largest deportation effort in U.S. history. She also mentioned that ICE officials arranged for immigrants in the country illegally, who were serving jail sentences, to be transferred into the enforcement agency's custody.

"Promises made, promises kept!" Britt posted on X (formerly known as Twitter). "The Trump Administration's first full day of ICE enforcement was larger than any day in four years of the Biden Administration."

"Today, ICE made 308 arrests of illegal aliens in our nation's interior—even with the frigid temperatures. These arrests were nationwide in every area of interest and included several murderers, rapists, sex offenders, and kidnappers."

Britt went on to add that "ICE also went to jails and ordered almost 300 additional aliens to be released to ICE custody rather than our nation's streets. Common sense is back."

After returning to the White House on Monday, President Trump signed several executive orders aimed at restricting immigration and strengthening border security.

Advocacy groups and some Democrats strongly opposed Trump's action. They criticized his immigration orders on his first day, including his proposal to end birthright citizenship for children of immigrants without legal status.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit against Trump, arguing that his actions violated the Constitution. Furthermore, attorneys general from 22 Democratic-led states also filed lawsuits challenging the order.

Executive director of the ACLU Anthony D. Romero said, "Denying citizenship to U.S.-born children is not only unconstitutional — it's also a reckless and ruthless repudiation of American values," The Hill reported.

"Birthright citizenship is part of what makes the United States the strong and dynamic nation that it is. This order seeks to repeat one of the gravest errors in American history, by creating a permanent subclass of people born in the U.S. who are denied full rights as Americans."
