About 3,000 winners will split the $10.3-million North Carolina Lottery prize between them after they chose the same bizarre winning number combo for the Carolina Pick 4 held on Nov. 13.
On Nov. 13, at the Carolina Pick 4 drawing, about 3,326 people chose the winning number combo 0-0-0-0. The group win of the $10.3 million North Carolina Lottery prize breaks the previous state record of $9.2 million that was set in August 2020. The $10.3 million lottery prize will be split between the 3,326 winners, the Sacramento Bee reported.
Lottery officials stated that top prizes of $5,000 will be awarded to players who have one of the 1,481 winning $1 tickets, and $2,500 prizes will be awarded to players who have one of the 1,147 winning 50 cent tickets.
The odds of matching all four numbers in a Pick 4 drawing are only 1 in 10,000.
The lottery officials said that the winners have 180 days to claim their prize. The winnings can be claimed through mail or at one of six regional lottery offices. In order to claim their prize, the winner is required to bring a photo ID and proof of their social security number, according to iHeart.
Lottery officials notified that anyone claiming their prize at a regional office on Monday or Tuesday should expect extended waiting times due to the large number of winners and COVID-19 safety procedures.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a Virginia man reportedly won $200,000 after he bought 40 lottery tickets, all with the same four numbers.
Michael Raines, bought 40 tickets, all with the same four numbers, for the Pick 4 drawing held on June 8 and won a total amount of $200,000.
Raines, who works as a dump truck operator, bought the winning tickets at the Little Food Market, located at 908 Halifax Street in Petersburg.
Raines said that he selected the four digits, 1-2-2-0, to commemorate the day his mother passed away. When these four digits that he picked were drawn that night, it turned all the 40 tickets that Raines bought into top-prize winners, according to WJLA-TV.
“It’s like she was looking out for me,” he said.
“I knew it was going to come. I just didn’t know when," he added.
