The beginning of the year is always an exciting time, especially because we get to see a full spectrum of what to exepct for the next 12 months with a clearer vision. This also applies to movie releases, and as we approach award season, stakes are getting higher, competition gets fiercer and excitement gets higher. So, without further adue, here are 25 of the movies we can't wait to watch in 2016.

“The Revenant”

Opens: January 8 (Wide opening)

González Iñárritu's thriller is based on the true story of legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) who, while exploring the uncharted wilderness in the 1800s, sustains injuries from a brutal bear attack. When his hunting team leaves him for dead, Glass must utilize his survival skills to find a way back home to his beloved family. Grief-stricken and fueled by vengeance, Glass treks through the wintry terrain to track down John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy), the former confidant who betrayed and abandoned him. Take a look.

“The Fifth Wave”

Opens: January 22

In the new film The 5th Wave, four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, Cassie (Chloë Grace Moretz) is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie teams up with a young man who may become her final hope - if she can only trust him. Watch the trailer here.

“Spotlight”

Opens: January 28

In 2001, editor Marty Baron of The Boston Globe assigns a team of journalists to investigate allegations against John Geoghan, an unfrocked priest accused of molesting more than 80 boys. Led by editor Walter "Robby" Robinson, reporters Michael Rezendes (Mark Ruffalo), Matt Carroll and Sacha Pfeiffer interview victims and try to unseal sensitive documents. The reporters make it their mission to provide proof of a cover-up of sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic Church.

“The Clan”

Opens (U.S.): January 29

Pablo Trapero's film is based on the infamous story of the so-called Puccio clan; a high-class family in the 1980’s who took on Argentina’s Dirty War techniques to form a well-rounded business of kidnapping, extorting and murdering victims for hefty amounts of money. As mentioned, the Puccio criminals didn’t end their transactions by taking the cash and running, but killed the victims just as a precautionary measure. Watch the trailer here.

“Kung Fu Panda 3”

Opens: January 29

In this third installment, Po, voiced by the hilarious Jack Black, is reunited to his long-lost father Li Shan, portrayed by Bryan Cranston. Through a series of adventures, the two end up at a panda village where we are introduced to many new characters, including a new admirer, Mei Mei who is voiced by Kate Hudson! Also returning to their charming roles are hollywood favorites: Angelina Jolie as Tigress, Dustin Hoffman as Shifu, Jackie Chan as Monkey, Lucy Liu as Viper and Seth Rogen as Mantis!

“Eisenstein in Guanajuato”

Opens: February 5 (Limited release)

Venerated filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein (Elmer Bäck) travels to Mexico to shoot his new film after being shunned by Hollywood. There he has a sensual experience that becomes a significant turning point in his life and career.

“Pride And Prejudice And Zombies”

Opens: February 5

A zombie outbreak has fallen upon the land in this reimagining of Jane Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England. Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) is a master of martial arts and weaponry and the handsome Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley) is a fierce zombie killer, yet the epitome of upper class prejudice. As the zombie outbreak intensifies, they must swallow their pride and join forces on the blood-soaked battlefield in order to conquer the undead once and for all. Watch the trailer here.

“The Club”

Opens: February 5 (Limited release)

Directed by Pablo Larraín, the film follow the story of four disgraced priests and a nun (Antonia Zegers) living in exile in La Boca, Chile, who receive a visit from a clerical counselor (Marcelo Alonso).

“Deadpool”

Opens: February 11

A former Special Forces operative turned mercenary is subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers and adopts the alter ego Deadpool.

“Crouching Tiger, HIdden Dragon: Sword of Destiny”

Opens: February 26

Another life-altering quest, another struggle between honor and lust for power, another generation of a band of legendary warriors who protect a 400-year-old sword known as "The Green Destiny" forging alliances and enmities.

“Hail, Caesar!”

Opens: March 3

A Hollywood fixer (Josh Brolin) springs into action when a movie star (George Clooney) gets kidnapped and an actress becomes pregnant.

“Desierto”

Opens: March 4

Directed by Alfonso and Jonás Cuarón, it's a suspense-thriller packed with tension and suspense from start to finish, starring Gael García Bernal and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. What begins as a hopeful journey to seek a better life becomes a harrowing and primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante chases a group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous U.S.-Mexican border. “Zootopia”

Opens: March 4

One of the most anticipated family films from Walt Disney for 2016! The film tells the story of Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), an adventurous Fox trying to make it big in the city, and Judy Hoops (Ginnifer Goodwin) a fabulous but tough little rabbit, who are forced to team up to solve a crime in the thriving metropolis of Zootopia. Through their advntures we learn more about our lovable characters are also introduced to their diverse group friends including Gazelle voiced by latin pop icon Shakira!

“Miracles from Heaven”

Opens: March 18

Based on the incredible true story of the Beam family. When Christy (Jennifer Garner) discovers her 10-year-old daughter Anna (Kylie Rogers) has a rare, incurable disease, she becomes a ferocious advocate for her daughter’s healing as she searches for a solution. After Anna has a freak accident and falls three stories, a miracle unfolds in the wake of her dramatic rescue that leaves medical specialists mystified, her family restored and their community inspired.

“The Little Prince”

Opens: March 18

A little girl lives in a very grown-up world with her mother, who tries to make sure she is prepared for it. Her neighbor The Aviator, introduces the girl to an extraordinary world where anything is possible, the world of The Little Prince. Watch the trailer here.

“The Secret Life of Pets”

Opens: July 8

The Secret Life of Pets is an upcoming 2016 American 3D computer animated comedy film produced by Illumination Entertainment. The film is directed by Chris Renaud and Yarrow Cheney and written by Brian Lynch, Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio.

“Ghostbusters”

Opens: July 15

Thirty years after the original film took the world by storm, Ghostbusters is back and fully rebooted for a new generation. Director Paul Feig combines all the paranormal fighting elements that made the original franchise so beloved with a cast of new characters, played by the funniest actors working today. Get ready to watch them save the world this summer!

“Star Trek Beyond”

Opens: July 22

Stranded on a hostile planet, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the rest of the Enterprise crew face an alien threat. Watch the preview here.

“Doctor Strange”

Dr. Strange was a self-centered New York surgeon robbed of his touch after a car accident. After a stint as a wandering derelict, he encounters a healer in the Himalayas and learns to tap into psychic powers to battle wrongdoers.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”

Opens: November 17

An all-new adventure returning us to the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling. Eddie Redmayne stars as magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates. The film is set in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case. Watch the trailer here.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”

Opens: December 15

Rebels set out on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star in the upcoming American epic space opera film directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz, from an idea by visual effects supervisor John Knoll.
