Police said that a 28-year-old jilted lover took help of thugs to throttle her former boyfriend in revenge for calling off their relationship.
Influencer Isabela Gomes Pereira is accused of hiring three men to break into Leandro Rezende's house as a punishment for ending their romance, reported Mirror. The 36-year-old was sleeping when he was attacked with a rear naked choke. He was tied with electrical cables, said investigators. While all four gang members kicked and beat him, he was allegedly choked to death with a power cable from a fan.
Police in Contagem, Brazil, believe that Pereira had meant to scare and injure him, but got carried away in the attack that happened in June. Fox 3 Now reported that she and and two of the suspected gang members have been charged with armed robbery that resulted in Rezende's death. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in jail. According to police, a third suspect is still on the run.
Rezende was reportedly killed by mechanical asphyxiation due to "neck constriction and blunt cervical trauma."
Pereira is said to have found the three men aged 31, 24 and 20 in Belo Horizonte, and then she allegedly convinced them to break into her ex-boyfriend's house at night. Apart from beating him, she told them that they could loot his house and split the profits. Police said that on the night of the crime, she picked the men up and drove to the victim's house. Once they reached, one of them jumped the wall and opened the gate for the others. Many of Rezende's belongings were stolen from the property. The stolen items included his TV, mobile phone, perfumes, clothes, trainers, portable speakers and a car worth 15,300 pounds ($18,594.78).
The Sun reported that an investigation into his death is ongoing.
During the couple's relationship, there had been many incidents of violence. Pereira had gone to cops last September after Rezende allegedly slapped her in the face and pulled her hair. In April 2022, the two fought when she allegedly caught him in a restaurant with another woman. Pereira allegedly smashed a glass on his table.
