A rising star in sports journalism, 27-year-old Adan Manzano died while on assignment covering Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans.
Manzano, a reporter for Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports, passed away on Wednesday, his employer said.
"Adan was an exceptional professional and a rising star whose dedication and talent reflected excellence in his work," said Telemundo KC in a statement. "We will deeply miss Adan, his passion for sports and the contributions he made to the local community."
Manzano was found unresponsive in a hotel in Kenner, Louisiana, just outside New Orleans, according to local police. While an autopsy has been completed, officials stated the final cause of death is pending further testing.
Originally from Mexico City, Manzano built a name for himself as a dedicated sports journalist. He graduated from Kansas State University before joining the Kansas City Chiefs' Spanish-language broadcast team as a sideline reporter. This year marked his third consecutive season covering the Super Bowl.
Tragically, Manzano's death comes less than a year after losing his wife, Ashleigh LeeAnn Boyd, in an April 2024 car accident, WIBW reported.
She was remembered by him as "the most kindest, caring, beautiful person" with a contagious energy that "lit up any room."
Their toddler, Eleanor, now faces a future without both her parents.
"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time," Telemundo KC shared.
