A well known Bulgarian cellist who was reported missing last week has been found alive and well. Penka Petkova, 26, who was last seen by her housemates at her east London flat on Sept. 20, failed to show up at a concert last Tuesday and had concerned friends worried as her mobile phone was switched off since.
According to The Sun, police launched an investigation to find Petkova who had not been in contact with anyone since her odd disappearance. Authorities confirmed that she was located and found to be “safe and well”.
Conductor Thomas Blunt had tweeted an appeal over the weekend that said, “Penka is a talented cellist who studied at the Guildhall School and has been missing since September 20.”
“She is spending nights at main London stations - please look out for her on your commute. No phone, cards or money, and has lost a lot of weight.”
Petkova works as a tutor at Islington Media and Arts College after graduating from Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Having played the cello at the young age of five, Petkova went on a scholarship after boasting of numerous artistic achievements in her hometown of Bulgaria listing several performances with her home country’s philharmonic orchestras. She is also noted for her solo and chamber recordings for Bulgaria’s national television and the Czech Republic.
The talented cellist has also performed around the world including, the US, Czech Republic, Macedonia, Switzerland, Germany and Luxembourg.
In 2011, the Bulgarian minister of culture awarded her with an honorary diploma. She has made appearances as a soloist for Classic FM’s Radio Orchestra and has also done solo performances with the New Symphony Orchestra.
No further details and information have been released regarding the disappearance of the petite brunette cellist who speaks with an East European accent. She was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, grey chequered trousers, pink and purple trainers and a clutch bag.
An update by a spokesman of the Metropolitan Police stated, “Thanks to those of you who shared our appeal for information about Penka Petkova who had been reported missing. We are pleased to let you know she has been found safe and well."
