Jack Bauer will return. That is the sentiment from executives at FOX who said that Kiefer Sutherland will reprise his lead role in the primetime action-drama series "24", which has been on indefinite hiatus since 2010.
The return of Jack Bauer was originally slated to be on the big screen, with a film version of "24", but one of FOX's executives, Kevin Reilly told FOX News that once the network said it wanted a 'big event miniseries', they immediately got onboard with the idea.
"I think ["24"'s creators] agreed "24" being compressed into two hours is not "24"," Reilly said.
"24: Live Another Day", is scheduled to air in May 2014. Following each episode, "Wayward Pines", a new miniseries from "The Signs" and "The Sixth Sense" creator M. Night Shyamalan will be broadcast to play off the temper of the evening's lineup. "Wayward Pines" will feature actor Matt Dillon in a traditional Shyamalan thriller, this time about missing federal agents in Idaho.
Access Hollywood reported that FOX's decision may be related to the recent success of the miniseries television format. The History Channel's "The Bible" aired appropriately during Lent, was a huge hit for actress Roma Downey and the rest of the cast.
The main difference between the new "24" and the old series will be in regards to the titular reference to the importance of each hour of the day. "24: Live Another Day" will last for 12 episodes, meaning there will be occasional breaks in the chronology of the 24 hours that Jack Bauer has to save the world.
