24 Hours of Le Mans 2013 begins Saturday, June 22, at 8:30 a.m. ET on Speed. The most prestigious endurance race in motorsports, heavyweight champion Audi and a fitter factory Toyota team contender will go to war at one of the most historic racing venues on earth.

Starting right where Audi left off, 31-year-old Loic Duval pilots the #2 Audi R18 e-tron Quattro to set a blistering lap Wednesday night that was under the target time benchmarked for pole last year.

"Yesterday's lap time was enough to defend the pole position," Duval said following Thursday's final session. "That's why we scored a Championship point that may be decisive at the end of the year. It's always better to start from the pole position even though that doesn't really mean a lot at such a long race. Still, we're happy about the top spot on the grid.

"Yesterday, we weren't completely satisfied with the balance of our cars yet, but today the set-up was much better. As the track at the end was faster today than it was yesterday I was a bit worried that we might still lose the pole position. But in the end, we made it. Everything went according to plan. That's why we're very happy with the result."

In fact, the trio Audi R18 e-tron Quattro managed to lock down the first three positions on the grid. The Audi R18 e-tron Quattro of Duval/Kristensen/McNish are followed by Lotterer/Fassler/Treluyer, and finally Gene/Di Grassi/Jarvis.

Despite the dominance desplayed by the German factory team, Toyota is delighted with the progress the two TS030 HYBRID machines made during qualifying despite having failed to challenge Audi for the front row.

"Finally we could do some dry running to work on our race settings," said Toyota team president Yoshiaki Kinoshita. "We are where we expected to be on the grid after we again focused on developing our race pace. The target here at Le Mans is not qualifying; it is the end of the race on Sunday. It has been a good day and I am very happy with the team's work."

"All of us feel comfortable with the car and the set-up we have defined for the race. It's a long race and we'll give everything we have."

Lapierre in the sister car said he felt the team was in good shape for the race.

"The car showed more potential than yesterday and I think we have a more competitive package so we are happy with what we achieved," said Lapierre of the TS030 sister car that qualified in fifth behind Davidson/Buemi/Sarrazin. "On the #7 we focused on long runs and working for the race, which is more important than qualifying. Anyway fourth and fifth was the best we could achieve.

"Now we will see where we are with tyre management and fuel consumption. I am quite excited about Saturday and can't wait for the race."
