A 22-year-old woman who had just gotten married saw her dreams dissipate after she was killed by a machete-wielding man in Ohio while working at a discount store.
She was identified as Keris Riebel who was working on shift when a 27-year-old man entered the store and reportedly hacked her to death on New Year’s Day at around 4:25 p.m.
The suspect was identified as Bethel Bekele. He reportedly entered the store and hacked Riebel to death at the time, leaving the 22-year-old newlywed lying on the floor before fleeing the scene.
Local police were called to the scene at Upper Sandusky after receiving a report of a man entering the store and hacking a female employee.
Authorities managed to track down Bekele about a mile away from the store. He was arrested hours after the incident without incident.
As of this writing, police have yet to establish a motive behind the murder. However, the death of Riebel has left his husband lumped with bills aside from being left in total grief.
"At this time, the motive is unclear. Detectives are currently investigating what, if any, relationship exists between the victim and suspect," the Upper Sandusky Police Department said in a Facebook post.
A GoFundMe page has been put up to help the widow, named Jordan, pay for funeral costs and therapy for the family.
"Jordan and Keris were newlyweds who had a bright future ahead of them. Anyone who met the two could see how much love and adoration they had for each other,” the post read. "Jordan and Keris were also looking forward to having children and most recently a puppy and starting their new lives together. It was ripped apart from the both of them in a matter of seconds."
It was added that Riebel had just obtained a degree in Human Resources and was looking forward to starting her career. The GoFundMe has so far raised $66,400 as of this writing.
