The men's division of curling at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia is coming down the final stretch and with the semifinal round set to begin, fans of the sport will have the opportunity to watch the top four teams in the world compete for the sports most prestigious honor. Thanks to impressive yet grueling victories over the United States and China, Team Canada heads to the 2014 Men's Curling Semifinals with significant confidence in their ability to move to the Gold Medal match. Hoping to put their focus solely on the semifinal contest against China and not on what possibly lies ahead, Canada and star Brad Jacobs are optimistic after a tough round robin slate.

“When you come to an Olympics, there is so much hype about gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, especially with the Canadian men's curling team because it is so successful,” Jacobs said. “We kind of let that get to us a little bit so we had to refocus [in the previous matches], regroup and stay in the present. Forget about the gold medal. It was all mental.” Moving on to the final four along with Sweden, China and Great Britain, Canada is now preparing to face the challenge of upending an extremely talented Chinese team for the second time in four days.

While Canada squares off with China, Sweden will take on Great Britain, a team floating with positive emotion following a thrilling 6-5 tiebreak victory over Norway to clinch the fourth and final spot in the semi's. Battling with a gifted Norwegian team, Britain and skip David Murdoch needed a championship caliber moment to upend their tiebreak opponent. Taking out two Norwegian stones with a superb attempt that resulted in a Great Britain double, Murdoch sent his passionate team into a celebratory frenzy after lifting the national squad to the final four.

“It will certainly go up there as one of my best shots ever,” he said after the entertaining contest. “It's just tremendous; it's great to get into the semi-finals. We've had fantastic support through the week and that game was absolutely incredible. We weighed up our chances and we guessed we had a chance to win the game. We're not scared of playing shots like that because it was a chance of getting into the semi-finals. I just had to trust myself and have the courage to go for it. We never think about failure as a team, we only think about winning.”

Great Britain will need to continue to focus solely on winning, with a tough match against a Sweden team that finished round robin play with 8 wins in 9 matches up next.
