The next-generation MINI Cooper is scheduled to officially debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show and Tokyo Motor Show, which will simultaneously hold its press days starting November 20th and its public days on November 22nd. However, a lucky few will get to see the new MINI Cooper just a little sooner. The British make will host their own private unveiling on November 18th in major cities London, Los Angeles, and Shanghai.
The date of the new MINI Cooper event, November 18, was selected as a tribute to Sir Alec Issigonis, the designer that brought the original Mini to life. Were Issigonis alive, he would be partying it up with the new MINI Cooper for the 107th birthday. Since the original Mini Cooper was first introduced in 1959, it had always been made for the people. To honor Sir Alec Issigonis and his Mini philosophy, MINI will be inviting three fans for a chance to attend one of the exclusive events. To register a chance to win, be sure to visit the official New MINI website and follow the instructions.
According to sources, the new standard MINI Cooper will feature a TwinPower Turbo 1.5 liter three cylinder engine producing a modest 134 hp and 162 lb.-ft. of torque, or 169 lb.-ft. of torque with overboost.
