When GM first unveiled the 2014 Corvette Stingray earlier this year, execs announced the Stingray will offer 450 hp and 450 lb.-ft. of torque. As it turns out, the numbers were very accurate, if not slightly conservative. On Tuesday, Chevrolet has released the 2014 Corvette Stingray's SAE-certified figure of 455 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque.

For enthusiasts that ask for a little more, the 2014 Corvette Stingray will also offer an optional performance exhaust system good for an extra 5 hp and 5 lb.-ft. of torque for a total of 460 hp and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. What's more, the performance exhaust system will be available for the Stingray convertible as well, giving the drop top equal performance figures as the hard top.

The standard 2014 Corvette Stingray's performance level makes it the most powerful entry-level Corvette model ever introduced. According to Chevrolet, the 2014 Corvette Stingray is capable of accelerating from 0-to-60 mph in less than 4 seconds. In fact, the 74-hp per liter figure in the LT1 is a greater power density than even the C6 Z06's 7.0 liter LS7.

The new levels of engine performance in the LT1 are due to innovative technologies including direct injection, an all-new combustion system and continuously variable valve timing. For 2014, the Corvette will finally feature Active Fuel Management and cylinder shutdown technology for greater efficiency. Fuel economy is expected to exceed 26 mpg US (9 liters/100 km) on the highway.
