The new 2013 Chevy Camaro Z/28 just unveiled on Wednesday, March 27, at the 2013 New York International Auto Show. An important revival of a legendary moniker, the new Z/28 is the long awaited bad boy of the Camaro model lineup.
The latest Camaro Z/28 is armed with a dynamite 7.0 liter LS7 small block V8, producing a substantial power output of 500 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. While immensely powerful, the Camaro Z/28 is rather thirsty. Chevy claims that the EPA estimated fuel economy rating is 15 / 24 mpg City / Highway. In comparison, the hardcore ZL1 boasts 580 horsespower from its 6.2 liter supercharged V8.
Despite the power gap, the Camaro Z/28 is arguably more car than the ZL1. 300 pounds lighter than the ZL1, the Z/28 is tuned for the track with thinner rear glass, lighter wheels, and a daring air conditioning delete option. According to Chevrolet, the awesome weight loss combined with chassis reinforcement and brake upgrades for the new Z/28 is enough to cut an average time of three seconds a lap over the ZL1.
Demonstrating its intent to make the Z/28 as driver-centric as possible, the Camaro Z/28 will only be available with a 6-speed manual transmission. What's more, the Z/28 will differentiate itself with a bold front splitter, flared fenders and rocker extensions. Out back, a unique spoiler and diffuser help keep the massive rubbers planted to the ground at high speeds.
