The 2013 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year Award is up for grabs. This year a total of 45 vehicles from 23 automakers stand a chance of taking home the prize.
Last year, the 2012 Hyundai Elantra and Land Rover Range Rover Evoque took car and truck of the year, respectively. This year, candidates seem to be coming from all sorts of avenues. An eclectic bunch, alternative energy vehicles like the Tesla Model S, Toyota RAV4 EV and Honda Fit EV must face-off against sports cars including both Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ as well as the SRT Viper. Trucks range from the Mazda CX-5 and Escape crossovers to the burly Ram 1500 and Mercedes-Benz G-Class trucks.
It'll be hard to whittle down the merits of each vehicle and stacking them up against one another but jurors on the awards board will have a long judging session before the "short list" gets announced. Winners will finally be revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in January, 2013.
The complete list of candidates are below. Tell us who you think deserves to take the prize! Also note that Japanese makes account for 40 percent of the roster.
