The latest 2013 Land Rover Range Rover made its first public debut today earlier today in a special event held at The Royal Ballet School of London.
Initial images of the Land Rover Range Rover first surfaced last month but today's unveiling is the new Range Rover's first major press release. Not only did Land Rover release UK pricing information and new details on its diesel hybrid variant, the British automaker also released more than 140 new images of the new flagship SUV.
The next generation Range Rover promises to be lighter, ranging up to a whopping 420 kg weight loss in certain trims, and will also be larger in dimension, stronger in structure, and more refined than the outgoing Range Rover models.
Three unique powerplants will be offered at launch. First, a 255-hp 3.0 liter TD V6 diesel will act as the base engine and a 334-hp 4.4 liter V8 diesel engine will be the next step up. The range-topper will be a very powerful 503-hp 5.0 liter supercharged V8 engine. In 3.0 liter diesel guise, the Range Rover not only stands to lose 420 kg over its predecessor, its new engine will also help to increase fuel economy to 31.4 mpg and post a CO2 emission rating of 196g/km.
Finally, Land Rover has confirmed an all new hybrid powerplant to be released in a later date. Combined with a 3.0 liter V6 turbo diesel, the hybrid drivetrain will featured an integrated electric motor and a lithium-ion battery cell. According to Land Rover, the hybrid is expected to deliver C02 emission ratings as low as 169g/km.
The Land Rover Range Rover will start at £71,295 in Vogue 3.0L TDV6 trim and will run all the way up to £98,395 in Range Rover Autobiography 5.0L Supercharged trim. In the months ahead, the new Range Rover will eventually be sold in 170 unique markets worldwide. North America delivery will begin by December of this year.
According to Land Rover Global Brand Director John Edwards, "The new Range Rover preserves the essential, unique character of the vehicle - that special blend of luxury, performance and unmatched all-terrain capability. However, its clean sheet design and revolutionary lightweight construction have enabled us to transform the experience for luxury vehicle customers, with a step change in comfort, refinement and handling."
