The 2013 ALMA Awards are tonight and will honor Latinos in television, music and movies in a glamorous evening that will have your favorite stars shining bright. The ceremony will be broadcasted live for the first time ever starting at 10pm ET/7pm PT on MSNBC in a one our special hosted by Eva Longoria. Following the award ceremony, Alex Wagner will host a special titled "After the ALMAs" on the same network from Pasadena, California where the presenter will explore issues affecting the Latino community like the immigration reform, education and the growing Latino electorate. If you are a fan of the red carpet outfits that the stars will be wearing, a special on mun2 cable network will air an "All Access Red Carpet Special" on October 5 at 4pm ET. Here are 5 reasons for you to watch the ALMA Awards tonight on MSNBC:
5. Cast Of "Dexter" To Receive An Award
With the controversial conclusion of "Dexter" last weekend the cast will receive a "Special Achievement in Television" award that will honor Lauren Vélez, David Zayas and Aimee Garcia. The critically acclaimed series recently ended its eight-season run and will have "Maria LaGuerta," "Angel Batista" and "Jamie Batista" on-stage to receive the honor.
4. Rosario Dawson For Her Community Service
The actress Rosario Dawson will receive an award for "Outstanding Commitment to Cause and Community Award." Dawson is not only a talented actress and shows her passion on-screen, but she also has a passion for activism in the Latino community. Rosario has supported the Lower East Side Girls Club, Voto Latino and many other causes that have an impact in amongst Latinos, the lives of women and the environment.
3. Carlos Santana
Any reason to see the legendary Carlos Santana on a stage is reason enough to tune in to an award show. The musician is set to receive an "Outstanding Commitment to Cause and Community Award" at this year's ALMA Awards. He will be recognized for his exhaustive work in bringing the arts to local communities, education and health care for underprivileged youth and the fight against children in poverty. A very well deserved honor for such a legend.
2. Filly Brown To Be Honored
The movie "Filly Brown" is going to receive the award for "Special Achievement In Film" and executive producer Edward James Olmos and director Michael D. Olmos will lead cast members like Gina Rodriguez and Lou Diamond Phillips. This is the film that Jenni Rivera first and last appeared in and a mention to her talent is highly expected during the receipt of the award.
1. Anthony Quinn Award To Robert Rodríguez
One of the top honors will go to director Robert Rodríguez who is credited with highly successful movie franchises like "El Mariachi" and "Spy Kids." Rodriguez will be presented the "Anthony Quinn Award For Industry Excellence" by Jessica Alba and will be joined onstage by "Machete’s" Tito Larriva and Danny Trejo, as well as "Spy Kids’" Daryl Sabara and Alexa Vega as part of the special tribute. Lady Gaga, Cheech Marin and George López will also be part of the special presentation of this honor.
Other celebrities scheduled to attend include, Daisy Fuentes, Diego Boneta, Christina Millian, the cast of NBC's "Welcome To The Family" that include Ricardo Chavira and Justina Machado as well as the fabulous cast of "Devious Maids," Roselyn Sánchez, Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramírez, Judy Reyes and Edy Ganem.
