Honda has been very focused in its racing efforts at the Pirelli World Challenge racing series. Just last year, racing driver Lawson Aschenbach raced in a Honda Civic for Team Compass 360 to win the Touring Car class drivers title.
The Honda Civic Si has long been the sport compact car of choice for the younger market of consumers but the recent offerings from Scion, Volkswagen, Mazda, and Ford have caused its past grip on the market to slip. In an effort to return some excitement back to Honda's sport compact, the Japanese automaker is looking to demonstrate just how closely related its World Challenge Civic racing car is to the production Civic Si.
Unlike stock car racing or other touring car series like DTM, the World Challenge Civic starts its life as a standard Civic Si and is then converted into a racing car. Conversely, DTM racing cars are purely specialty racing cars with an exterior shell that bears a cartoony resemblence to the actual car.
