A 2-year-old boy in Indiana met with an untimely death after he accidentally shot himself with a gun found in his home.
Leighton Owings Seals reportedly chanced upon a loaded Ruger nine-millimeter handgun and pulled the trigger out of curiosity. Owings Seals was at home with Caci Seals (his mom) and his infant sibling at the time of the accident. But, he was alone in the bedroom at the time of the shooting as Caci was tending to her infant in another room.
“Evidence indicates the boy pulled the trigger on the Ruger and was struck by a single bullet," said the Indiana State Police. the incident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home in Fairmount, about 76 miles northeast of Indianapolis. While he was rushed to a hospital nearby, the toddler had succumbed to the wounds and was pronounced dead.
“This is an ongoing investigation. No further information will be released at this time,” said the state police. Authorities maintained that a detailed report will be sent to the Grant County prosecutor’s office for review upon the completion of the investigation.
