A 17-year-old girl allegedly killed herself a day before a public examination, fearing that she will fail her mathematics test in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India on Wednesday, May 25.
According to the authorities, the minor girl, a first-year student whose name has been withheld from the public, had been upset since the intermediate examinations started earlier this month.
She had reportedly confided to her parents that she expected herself to fail her mathematics examination due to its difficulty. On Wednesday, May 25, a day before the test, while the girl's parents were at work and the girl was home alone, the teen reportedly took her own life by hanging a noose from the ceiling fan in her room, the Times Of India reported.
The girl's parents discovered her body later that day and reported the tragedy to the police. When officers questioned the teenager's parents, they revealed that their daughter has found mathematics difficult since her childhood.
Meanwhile, investigating police confirmed that there was no foul play behind the incident and speculated that the suicide may have been related to the girl's math phobia.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a 15-year-old schoolgirl allegedly killed herself at her home fearing her failure in an examination. The incident reportedly happened at a residence near Aji Dam crossroads, Gujarat, India on Tuesday, April 26, Latin Times reported.
Priyanka Bhagora, a tenth-grade student, who lived in Om Tirumala Society, had reportedly been depressed since her school exams concluded and was extremely worried that she might have scored poor marks on the tests. Her father Mansukh, who owns a roadside food cart in Mansarovar Society, tried assuaging her anxiety and told her not to worry even if she fails.
However, Bhagora, who allegedly feared humiliation in front of her friends and relatives, subsequently decided to take her own life without taking her father's words into consideration.
Following this, on Tuesday, April 26, she went to the first floor of her house and hung herself from a noose tied to the ceiling fan.
