A 17-year-old boy reportedly killed both his parents as a sacrifice to cure his mentally-ill elder brother in Chhattisgarh, India.
The decomposing bodies of the victims, identified as Sukru Yadav, 40, and Manmati Yadav, 35, were reportedly recovered by officers in Nadigaon village on Aug 1.
Following the gruesome discovery, the officers registered a case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and started an investigation into the couple's death. During the inquiry, the officers became suspicious of the couple's 17-year-old minor son. After being questioned, he allegedly confessed to murdering his parents with the help of seven other individuals, Hindustan Times reported.
According to the accused, he was taken to a shaman named Mohan Yadav of Satguru Ashram a month before the incident, after his older brother fell mentally ill. Yadav allegedly told the minor that his brother had fallen ill because their parents had done some witchcraft. The occultist reportedly added that the suspect's brother's health and the family's financial situation would improve only if he killed both his parents.
Based on the suggestions made by Yadav, the minor hatched a plan to murder both his parents. He also sought help from his brother-in-law Narsingh Yadav and cousins Raju Ram Yadav, Bhole Shankar Yadav, Shankar Yadav, Khageshwar Yadav, Ishwari Yadav, and Dashrath Yadav in pulling off the crimes. Together, they planned to murder the couple and throw their dead bodies in the Mahanadi river, WION reported.
Following this, the accused's brother-in-law got a vehicle on the night of July 30 to Bhagwanpur and brought a rope, a towel, and a plastic sink to carry out the killings. The minor accused then called both his parents into the car on the pretext of their son not being well. He then took them to Surajgarh Mahanadi bridge where they were both strangled to death and their bodies were disposed of.
Based on the minor's confession, the police officers arrested seven people from different parts of Jashpur, Chhattisgarh. However, one of the accused, Dashrath Yadav, remains on the run and efforts are underway to take him into custody.
