A 15-year-old student was reportedly stabbed to death while he was trying to resolve a fight between his classmates over occupying the school playground. The incident happened in Thane, Mumbai, India on Tuesday, Oct. 26.
The victim, identified as Tushar Sable, a class 10 student of Maharaj Marathi Medium School, was brutally stabbed to death with a knife while two groups of his class were fighting each other on a small bridge next to the school. Sable, who was trying to save his friend from being attacked, was reportedly stabbed in the chest and died due to immense blood loss before he could be transported to a hospital, Hindustan Times reported.
On Tuesday, Oct. 26, after school hours, one of the victim's classmates started a fight with another group near the school's premises following which he received a slight tap in the head from one of the members of the rival clique.
Following this, both the groups started physically attacking each other. Amid the melee, Sable reportedly noticed the accused stabbing one of his classmates with a knife and ran to stop him. Sable held the accused's hand and prevented him from knifing his friend. Enraged, however, the young accused turned his attention to Sable and began stabbing the victim in the chest. The underage assailant then fled the scene.
“The boy who stabbed him fled while the others were caught by the other students of the school. Sable died on the way to the hospital due to plenty of blood loss," an officer from Wagle Estate police station said.
“We are taking statements from teachers and all other students. All accused are minors and we are questioning them from where they got this idea to carry a knife and the actual reason for the fight and the stabbing," V Rathod, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) said.
Police officers reviewed the CCTV surveillance cameras from around the area and identified the minor suspects involved in the attack. Law enforcement has nabbed three of Sable's classmates, the main assailant and two of his friends. The authorities are on the lookout to find the fourth accused who remains on the run.
A case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 302 (murder) has been registered at the Wagle Estate police station and further investigation into the incident is underway.
