The untimely death of a Detroit teen— shortly after being administered the second jab of Pfizer coronavirus vaccine— has triggered concerns across the United States. Jacob Clynick, 13, was a healthy youngster with no underlying illnesses at the time of his death, suggested an aunt Tammy Burages, who was close to the boy.
Clynick, as reported by Detroit Free Press, died in his sleep roughly about three days after getting vaccinated against the virus in mid-June. Clynick reportedly had complained of common post-vaccine symptoms including fatigue and fever. Burages also revealed that the boy had complained of a stomach ache on the night of June 15 and went to sleep with it. Sadly, he never woke up post that.
“We are currently looking at toxicology, tissue reports, blood work,” stated Saginaw County medical examiner Dr. Russell Bush to The Detroit News. “There will be discussions with the CDC and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Obviously, everyone is concerned with this case. We’re doing everything we can as far as testing and looking at potential problems related to the young man’s death,” he added.
Burages further enthused that the boy’s autopsy had revealed that his heart “was enlarged and there was fluid around it”, as cited in the New York Daily News. The reasoning is yet to be confirmed by medical experts who believe it typically takes around three to five months to zero in on the exact cause of death.
U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention spokeswoman Martha Sharan addressed the incident on WSET-TV. She said, “CDC is aware of a 13-year-old boy in Michigan who died after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination. This case is currently under investigation and until the investigation is complete, it is premature to assign a specific cause of death.”
A “serious adverse event” such as a death after a COVID-19 vaccination sparks an investigation by the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, but noted that the system “is not designed to determine if the vaccine caused the reported adverse event,” the outlet reported.
“While some reported adverse events may be caused by vaccination, others are not and may have occurred coincidentally,” she said.
Further probe into the case by the CDC is underway. Clynick’s funeral was held on Saturday. The teenager lived in Zilwaukee and had just completed eighth grade when he got his second dose of the Pfizer vaccine on June 13. Clynick was looking forward to starting classes in the fall as a freshman at Carrollton High School.
