A savage pack of pit bulls attacked an 11-year-old child and tore off more than half of his scalp in a terrifying incident that put the boy in the hospital, The Daily Star reported.

When a pack of three pit bulls attacked 11-year-old Justin Gilstrap while he was riding his bike in Grovetown, Georgia, they nearly tore off his ears and dragged him into a ditch.

The violent attack took place in the United States, where police verified the child had suffered severe injuries. The child was left with a ripped scalp and bite wounds to the legs.

The youngster's scalp, which was pulled off in the attack to the extent of 70%, has subsequently undergone numerous surgeries to be restored.

Ericka Gilstrap, the troubled mother, has subsequently spoken about the attack, which was stopped when the 11-year-old's cousin heard the boy's screams.

Burt Baker III, 26, was arrested for reckless behavior the same day of the attack while emergency personnel were called to the scene and took the youngster to the hospital.

A pet owner "admitted that the dogs were his and later stated they like to chase people on bicycles," according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

Baker III has secured a bail bond and is awaiting trial, but reports claim that Columbia County Animal Services has already issued warnings for allowing the dogs to go loose in the past.

Ericka has also launched a fundraiser to cover the costs of Justin's hospital stay, which has so far raised £79,809 ($97,000) of its £98,000 ($120,000) goal.

She wrote, "I am asking everyone to please pray for Justin. He was attacked by 3 pit bulls tonight [January 6]. He was rushed in for emergency surgery."

"He is currently intubated and sedated at CHOG in PICU. He is missing 70 percent of his scalp, has several lacerations and staples, they couldn’t close the wound on his leg, and now he’s running a fever," she added.

She also said, "the sad thing is we have reported these dogs several times before. Columbia County did nothing. It’s sad it took this for them to finally do something."
