“The 100” was confirmed to return for its Season 7 as The CW renewed the show even before the sixth installment aired in April. The early renewal signifies strong viewership ratings, but it was also reported that it will be the series’ final run.
It was The CW’s chief, Mark Pedowitz, who gave the idea last year that Season 7 is going to be the last. He shared that “The 100” showrunner Jason Rothenberg has plans for the drama to continue after the fifth season, but it might be until the seventh only.
“He may have a six or seven-year plan to it,” Pedowitz told the Nerdist via Digital Spy. “I don't know if I'm allowed to even say that, that he has a plan beyond year five, but he does.”
On Aug. 5, Rothenberg confirmed that they have indeed arrived at the finale with the renewal of the seventh chapter. He made the announcement via social media, and fans expressed sadness over the news of the show’s endgame.
“With #The100 Season 6 finale just days away, I have some bittersweet news to share: Season 7 will be our last,” Rothenberg wrote. “We are eternally grateful to WB & CW for always allowing us to tell our story the way we want to & to wrap the show on our terms. What an incredible ride this has been!”
Plotline
In any case, the showrunners promise a good ending, and here are some details to expect in the upcoming “The 100” Season 7. For the storyline, it will pick up from the last chapter’s cliffhanger, where Octavia Blake (Marie Avgeropoulos) is believed to have been killed by Hope (Shelby Flannery), and the distraught Bellamy (Bob Morley) will try to figure out what exactly happened to his younger sister.
Cast Lineup
When the show returns, all the main characters are expected to be back, and this includes Eliza Taylor as Clarke Griffin, Christopher Larkin as Monty Green and Henry Ian Cusick as Marcus Kane. Rothenberg revealed that Lindsey Morgan will also return as Raven Reyes as she wasn’t destroyed in Season 6, as everyone thinks.
Release Date
The finale of “The 100” will feature 16 episodes. As per TV Guide, the post-apocalyptic sic-fi drama will premiere sometime in April 2020.
